How to remove and repair a Ford Focus Intstrument Cluster - 2009

I recently have experienced an intermitment 'Engine Malfuction' message with the car going into limp mode, usualy over bumps in the road, someimes only for a second other times longer. I realised tapping the dashboard / instrument cluster instantly removed the error and I could drive normally. Asking about, I learned that this is almost always a result of the solder joints on the instrument cluster where the loom connects have cracked up.

Kayaking The Grand Canyon

 A 12 day trip kayaking down the Grand Canyon in January.

A great adventure in one of natures most remote locations. I put all the footage together from my GoPro into one long video which you can view below giving you and idea of what the river is like both in the big rapids, and between them. You don't get the full sense of the gradient of the rapids or the size of the canyon itself so I have put another video together  below with some photo's I took on the trip which give you a better perspective!

Surfing at the Bitches Tidal Race

 

A 5am start to make it out to the surf on the tidal race at the Bitches in South Wales.
This play spot is one of my favourite locations and gifts us some of the best standing waves that are a kyakers dream.
To get to the wave, we need to paddle from the put in to the top of the bay and ferry glide from the coastline accross to Ramsey Island where the waves form as tide rushes in over the rocks bewteen. The wave begins to work around 3 hours before high tide which can involve an early paddle out before the dawm breaks so be sure to bring a head tourch for the journey.

The Peel Out - Canoe Slalom Technique

The Peel Out technique used in Canoe Slalom where we treat a downstream gate as an upstream around the far pole when there is flow going through the downstream gate making it hard to turn back upsteam and get enough movement accross to reach the next gate. By Peeling Out we can generate momentum before breaking out back into the flow in the best place to navigate the next gate sequence.

The Merano - Canoe Slalom Technique

The Merano is a technique used where an upstream gate has flow going through it or the eddy is not strong enough to break out behind on the nearside of the gate and we breakout above the gate where the eddy is stronger and do the turn on the far side of the gate instead to keep hold of the gate line. As we enter the eddy we ensure we continue our downstream momentum such that we carry enough speed to arrive downstream of the gate and spin the bows upstream and while trying to hold our hight in the gate line to keep the boat running through the gate.
